THE FOUR CARDINAL DOCTRINES OF
THE FOURSQUARE CHURCH
Consistent with the revelation God had given to Aimee Semple McPherson, the denomination's founder, the Church of the Foursquare Gospel in the Philippines believes the four-fold ministries of Jesus Christ.
1. JESUS CHRIST THE SAVIOR
We believe that Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, is the only way to salvation. Those who believe and accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior will find an everlasting life.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him..." –Isaiah 53:5 (Titus 2:14, Is. 55:7, Heb. 7:25, Is. 1:18, John 3:16; Acts 4:12)
2. JESUS CHRIST THE BAPTIZER WITH THE HOLY GHOST
We believe the Holy Ghost is the Third Person of the Godhead - omnipotent and omnipresent; convicts of sin and righteousness; draws sinners to the Savior; rebukes, pleads and searches out the hearts of mankind; a comfort; and baptizes and endues with power.
"For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit... you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." –Acts 1:5,8 (Jn. 14:16-17, Mark 1:8, Acts 2:4, Acts 8:17, Acts 10:44-46, 1 Cor. 3:16)
3. JESUS CHRIST THE GREAT PHYSICIAN
We believe Jesus Christ, the Great Physician, heals the sick today. He heals those who are sick physically and spiritually.
"He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses..." –Matthew 8:17 (Mk. 16:17-18, Mt. 9:5-6, Acts 4:29-30, James 5:14-15)
4. JESUS CHRIST THE SOON-COMING KING
We believe the personal and imminent return of Jesus Christ, as a glorious King. This Second Coming of Christ is a promise given by Jesus Christ Himself. He will descend from heaven, the dead in Christ will rise, and the redeemed shall be caught up together to meet the Lord in the air, and be with Him forever.
"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout... the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord." –1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (Titus 2:12-13, Mt. 24:36-44, Heb. 9:28, Lk. 19:13, Lk. 12:35-37.)
These four cardinal doctrines of The Foursquare Church - Jesus Christ the Savior, Jesus Christ the Great Physician, Jesus Christ the Baptizer with the Holy Ghost, and Jesus Christ the Soon-Coming King – are symbolized in the four colors of The Foursquare Flag, the four faces in The Foursquare Emblem, and the four symbols of the cross, cup, dove, and crown in The Foursquare Logo.
